Simple Healthy College Recipes
Slow cooker recipe that uses all of each frozen/cold ingredient?
So I’m in college and sharing a house with two other people. Space in the fridge is obviously limited. I am doing my best to not eat horribly, but I hate going to much trouble to put meals together.
Basically the thing I hate the most is putting something together and having a bunch of the ingredients left over that may or may not get used. It’s even worse if they require storage in the fridge. I don’t want to be that annoying one who takes up all the space!
Anyway, I have a 2-quart slow cooker. Does anyone have suggestions about things to make that are fairly simple, healthy, and don’t leave me with a bunch of leftover ingredients?

My nephew Ryan (I have a zillion nieces/nephews) is going into university, has the same “parameters” as you mention, these are some of the recipes I gave him…
here’s a couple recipes; one’s a crock pot, and the other’s just quick there’s more on the site…
I always make sure there’s water in the crockpot if I’m putting something frozen in, and only use Low
- as the crockpot bowl could crack if something cold meets the hot (my sister’s did this) – and then there’s meat juice everywhere – but I’ve never had trouble
(consult you’re crockpot manual)
Easy Beef Crockpot Stew (that makes it’s own gravy, can 1/2 it if you need) :
1 pkg (approx 1 LB) Beef Stew – trimmed, thawed or fresh (kabob beef works well for this, or cubed sirloin steak – I thaw on counter for couple hrs just till a little icy, put in night before, add carrots/potatoes in AM)
3 potatoes, washed and cubed into roughly 1 1/2 inch chunks
2 Carrots, Sliced into 1 1/2 inch chunks
1 Onion Sliced
2 Cups Water (Cold or room temp)
2 Tablespoons Onion Soup Mix
3 Tablespoons Instant Tapioca
pinch of thyme (optional)
Night before: Pour Water into crockpot, add onion soup mix and instant tapioca. Stir. Place in meat, onions, put on lid – in the morning add potatoes, carrots and thyme, in that order.
The tapioca will thicken the liquid and make it’s own gravy. (that’s why the beef should be well trimmed, so the stew’s not fatty).
****For super tender beef, dredge beef cubes in flour, pan sear in frying pan on each side and place in crockpot night before with the liquid, onion soup mix and tapioca… add vegetables the next morning (before 10am, if stew is for the evening meal) – This is how my hubby prefers it – to cut the meat with a fork.****
Tapioca, no matter what your brother told you growing up, comes from the root of the cassava (yuca … different than yucca) plant, and is gluten free.

Well I’m not a rare person, I like food. I really like to make it but since I still live with my mom (highschool student) I don’t really have access to much… So I was wondering. What kinda recipes could I make out of common household items or with little to no going out to get random ingredients?
What I’m looking for is healthy eating, of course. It can be breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack… Just something to get me started! I wanna prepare myself for when I eventually live in a college dorm… And get married… Haha. Thanks!
